Space Science and Technologies

Space Science and Technologies is a secondary discipline under two first class disciplines, i.e., the control science and engineering, as well as the communications engineering. SAST offers the master’s and doctoral degrees under this subject. With the rapid development of space exploration, the space science and technologies have witnessed the expanded research scope. Meanwhile, the subject is facing more and more challenges and opportunities. In fact, the development of space science and technologies in recent years has already demonstrated its strong growth. In future, the subject will continuously develop towards the cross-disciplinary direction, since its multiple core technologies are highly involved with each other. The space science and technologies of Xidian University mainly concerns the theories and technologies to acquire, process, control and transmit the information of space targets with high speed. The subject comprehensively applies the knowledge of physics, mathematics, system science and engineering to conduct research of information transformation in the complicated space environment, which refers to the physical environment with extreme cold/hot, vacuum, solar radiation and effect of charged ion. Particularly, as the aircraft flies in the near space environment, a phenomenon called plasma sheath set would appear. It brings new challenges in information transformation. The research areas cover the space target detection, aircraft measurement, control and communication, spatial information network, as well as the cognitive space physics environment. Our research will efficiently promote the space exploration and the exploitation.
In recent years, our research staffs has successfully applied over 10 national projects, including a national 973 project, a national 863 project, a national major project, a national natural science foundation, and a national pre-research foundation. So far the projects hosted and accomplished by our researchers include: “××× method for the estimation of communications under the plasma sheath set”, “the fading characteristic in space of electromagnetic wave”, “××× antenna characteristic under the plasma sheath set”, “propagation characteristic of plasma electromagnetic wave”, “××× communication link method”, “××× communication mechanisms in the near space environment”. SAST has successfully accomplished a serial of academic achievements at the international advanced level. The school has also trained a research team of high quality, and equipped the labs with a batch of state-of-the-art experimental devices. Particularly, Prof. Li Xiaoping, the chief technology officer of key special projects, has successfully hosted the project of “fundamental theory of communications under the plasma sheath set”. In the year 2013, backed by the research team and with the dual-employed academician Lv Yueguang as the chief scientist, SAST has successfully applied the national 973 project of the ministry of science and technology. These research achievements have been published in domestic and international journals and conferences. Specifically, the school is granted 1 provincial science and technology progress award and over 20 national invention patents. In total the school has got more than 50 research paper indexed by SCI/EI
